The Kuduru Community in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will not forget in a hurry the nightmarish experience of Wednesday night when some gunmen invaded the area to kidnap seven of their community members.
Reports indicated that palpable fear now reigns as the residents are still in a state of shock following the unfortunate incident, which occurred around 11:20 pm on Wednesday, December 27, 2023.
It was gathered that the criminal gang stormed the neighbourhood, located about two kilometers from the Kuduru Police Station in Bwari and ransacked the area in an operation that lasted for over 30 minutes.
An eyewitness account revealed that aside from the Vice Chairman of the Neighbourhood Association who was abducted in the operation, two other adult men as well as a woman and her three kids were also taken captives by the marauding gunmen.
A resident of the Community, who simply identified himself as Mohammed to some reporters said; “It was at about 11:20 pm on Wednesday night when I started hearing gunshots on my street. When I opened the window to peep,I saw gunmen numbering about 20 in strategic areas of the street.
“Some of them entered the house beside me and kidnapped the vice chairman of our community. They now went into the house opposite me and took another people.”
According to him; “It was at this time that the neighbourhood called the Kuduru Police station and the military camp in Bwari for assistance.
“A few minutes later, the military personnel came with their vehicles and chased the kidnappers into the bush. The entire community joined in the chase, which continued for a while, but we couldn’t get any of the kidnappers and their hostages.”
Mohammed further stated that; “Since the unfortunate incident took place last night (Wednesday), the abductors are yet to contact any family member of those currently in captivity”, adding fear and anxiety reign within the community over the victims’ fate.
It was reliably gathered that the gunmen, who came through the bushes on foot, also used the same route for escape when confronted by the security agencies.
