Police Station Tragedy: Lady Kills Corporal In Imo
Tragedy struck at the Ezinihitte Area Command Police station in Imo state when a 23-year-old lady reportedly shot and killed an officer, identified as Corporal Cosmos Ugwu.
Police sources said Ugwu was shot dead on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, following an argument that ensued when his alleged girlfriend walked into the Station unannounced to confront him.
According to the sources, the suspect, identified as Amanda Uchechi Ugo, is a native of Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo state.
Available reports indicated that the incident occurred around 6:30pm on Boxing Day at the Ezinihitte Area Command and the officers on counter duty had to run for their dear lives when the sound gunshots ranged out from the room where the deceased officer was holding discussion with his lady visitor.
It was further gathered on Thursday that; “When police officers later ran into the room to see what was going on, they found Corporal Ugwu lying in a pool of his blood. The girl shot him three times on his chest and his left hand.
“He was rushed immediately to Evergreen Hospital in Ezinihitte, where he was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty.”
A Police insider hinted that there was a heated argument between the deceased officer and his girlfriend in the room at the police station, and in the course of the altercation, the girl (Amanda) snatched the rifle in officer’s possession, pulling the trigger and shooting him three times across his chest and other areas.
The source further explained thus; “It was like a movie. Nobody actually knows what went wrong between the two, but how the girl was able to use a police rifle successfully is still a surprise to many. Maybe, Ugwu was the one who taught her.”
The source also disclosed that the remains of the slain officer have been deposited at the Obizi mortuary, as the Police continue investigation into the unfortunate incident
Meanwhile, the suspect is currently in Police custody facing interrogation with a competent source confirming that she would be prosecuted when investigation is completed.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Imo State, Henry Okoye, said the Police are focused on ascertaining what actually transpired at the Station on that ill-fated day.
Okoye, who was responding to media enquiries said; “Yes, the incident happened. We are doing everything to ensure we investigate the matter, to ascertain the fact and possibly arraign the suspect in court.”
