Gunmen Kill Ex-Gov Suswam’s Elder Brother, Aide in Benue
Unidentified gunmen have killed Dr Terkula Suswam, elder brother of the immediate past Governor of Benue State, Senator Gabriel Suswam.
According to reports, the older Suswam was murdered alongside an aide at his hometown, Anyiin Gaambetiev in Logo Local Government Area of Benue state.
Reports said the incident occurred around 8:46 pm as the late Suswam, a stalwart of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and proprietor of Ashi Polytechnic, was at the school campus on Tuesday evening undertaking minor repair works on the gate house.
An eye witness account stated that Suswam was inspecting the gate house of a new building under construction when suddenly a Toyota vehicle, popularly called “Dog Nyash” appeared with the gun wielding men.
Sensing imminent danger, he attempted dashing into the house but was promptly gunned down by his assailants, who immediately fled the scene.
Alleged to be supporters of the notorious militia kingpin, late Terwase Akwaza alias Gana, the gunmen also shot dead an aide of the late Suswam during the attack.
There are rumours that after Akwaza was eliminated by the military last year, his loyalists have not backed down accusing some key figures from Sankara area, who initiated amnesty for Gana, of betrayal.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of Benue State police command, DSP Sewuese Anene, said the police could not immediately confirm the incident.
One news report quoted the Police spokesperson as saying; “I tried getting the DPO in Igba, Logo Local Government Area by telephone but couldn’t hear what he was saying as he was in a noisy place.”
