Gunmen Kill Inspector, One Other At Police Patrol Base In Bauchi

BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – As the spate of insecurity heightens across the country, a Police Inspector, who was a member of the Safer Highway Police Federal Roads Patrol was on Saturday night killed by unknown gunmen who attacked one of police patrol bases in Nabordo, in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The police officer who was killed by the gunmen was identified as Inspector Muktar Ibrahim while the civilian was identified as one of the sons of the Ward Head of Nabordo, Uba Sama’ila, who was said to had gone to the base on a friendly visit to the Inspector who was said to be his friend.

It was also gathered that a visiting civilian to the base at the time of attack was also shot dead by the daredevil gunmen who are now on the run.

The Bauchi State Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ahmed Wakili confirmed the shooting and killing, saying; “the story you want to confirm, is true”.

Wakili said that one of the bases of the highway patrols in the state stationed at Nabordo village on the Jos-Bauchi highway was attacked and two people, a Police officer and a civilian were shot and killed by the gunmen”.

The police spokesman explained that the attack by the yet to be identified gunmen was carried out late Saturday night on men of the Safer Highways Patrol team that patrolling the ever busy Bauchi-Jos road.

Wakili also said that another civilian who was hit by a stray bullet during the exchange of fire, is currently receiving treatment and recuperating at the ATBUTH, Bauchi.

The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi has ordered the deployment of more Police patrol teams to the area while men on ‘stop and search’ patrol have been put on high alert as investigation into the attack has commenced. No arrest has been made as of the time of filing this report.

Alabi, who recently assumed duties as new Police Commissioner in Bauchi has declared that policing in the state shall be driven by core knowledge and guided by intelligence at strategic, operational and tactical levels.

The CP told journalists at the Command headquarters said; “Our modus operandi will therefore be proactive, preventive and in some cases reactive and this will be conducted within the context of public ownership, partnership, participation, problem solving and community support towards general security.

“We will integrate the elements of key modern crime control and conflict management in our policing efforts. These methods are directed at prolific offender management, crime hot spots policing and managing major public gathering and crime prone events within dedicated systems of community partnership, intelligence-led patrol systems, hotspot policing and intelligence-led operations”.
