Gunmen Storm Iganna Police Station, Kill DCO, Suspect In Oyo

Unknown gunmen have struck at Iganna in Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State killing a Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) and a suspect (name withheld) in their daredevil attack

Reports said the gunmen easily beat the Police security network by shooting sporadically to scare away the residents and the security personnel guarding the station.

According to an eyewitness account, in the process, the shooting, which lasted several minutes, resulted in the death of the officer and a suspect in detention.

It was further gathered that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and other officers are currently receiving treatment at undisclosed hospitals for injuries sustained from gunshots during the attack.

Though the motives behind the attack that led to the two deaths recorded could not be ascertained at the time of going to press, competent sources hinted that the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Williams led his team to the incident scene on a fact-finding mission.

In his reaction, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Oyo State Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Adewale Osifeso, who confirmed the incident, said the attacks are being investigated.

“Investigation has commenced on the matter and updates would be provided accordingly, please”, DSP Osifeso said in his response to inquiries on the incident.
