BY THE ORDER OF THE KNIGHTS OF SAINT MULUMBA NIGERIA (KSM) (On Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah’s 2020 Christmas Homily And Public Reactions Thereto:)
The Supreme Knight, Sir Diamond Ovueraye KSM, on behalf of the KSM Nigeria Supreme Executive Board, hereby calls for clarity of Bishop Kukah’s Christmas message to the Nation; cautions the mischief intended for the national distraction from the correct thrust of the message, and concludes by re-echoing the necessary road map towards the restoration of Nigeria’s State Craft.

Bishop Kukah’s Christmas Message:

Bishop Matthew Kukah

The message can be summarized as follows:
1. “Another Christmas with Dark Clouds of Death” encapsulates the desolate state of the nation as a failed State with collapsing economy, endless bloodletting, and insecurity in our homes, highways, cities, hamlets, and entire communities. The global terrorism index confirms Nigeria as the world’s third most terrorized country. The Bishop follows up quickly with the rejection of despair, by pleading the need to pause, reflect, pray, be honest, and courageous in facing these trying moments in the history of our nation.
2. The cleric proceeds to refute the popular school of thought of a crisis or conflict between Christians and Muslims. He rather posits that “Terror is a product of hate, but while hate tries to divide us, terror and death should pull us together.”
3. “Is Government in Suspended Animation?” Our Country drifts rather rudderless, with citizens having nowhere to turn to. Reflecting on our President’s lamentation over the decay and neglect by past governments, the current noticeable persistent hunger, thirst, starvation, and anger, paints better living conditions during the preceding government. “Our country’s inability to drastically address these shortfalls is one of the most dangerous signs of the state drifting towards failure and a trigger to violence.”
4. “Breaking the Ice: From Chibok through Dapchi to Kankara:” exposes the vulnerability of the Nigerian child in Northern Nigeria. This is further amplified by the horrible and inhuman conditions of the Almajiri as the poster of the northern child and perhaps explains the social revolt against the political status quo, thus resulting in the wide spread insecurities in the region. How long shall Nigeria continue with the intrigue and circle of deceit that rewards and indirectly funds Boko Haram.
5. Kukah points to nepotism as Mr. President’s executive ground norm that seeks to reduce others to second class status at the expense of greater national cohesion. He quotes one Northern
Imam as lamenting that with all the cards of power in the hands of the Northern Muslims, the region has become a pool of blood and death.
6. Bishop Kukah, himself a Northerner from Kaduna State, in his quintessential style of a fearless prophet, anointed man of God, a Shepherd in the vineyard of God, and an erudite scholar, has also joined the rainbow of wailers to effectively paint a true artistic canvas of the stack socio-economic failings and insecurity realities that confront Nigeria; he strongly dispels any misinformation that tends to blame these challenges along fractured sectarian lines preferring to squarely identify the clueless governance direction with a nepotism compass that underpins the President’s state policy as responsible.

CONCLUSION:
The Honoured Order of the Knights of St. Mulumba (KSM), joins the legion of well minded and patriotic Nigerians across ethno-religious lines, to not only align with the liberation heological homily of His Lordship, Most Reverend Dr. Mathew Hassan Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese; but we commend his courage and sincerity of speaking the truth to power. For “you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free” (John 8:32). The cleric’s advocacy is succinctly in alignment with the Biblical injunction, “The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He anointed me to preach the Gospel to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed” (Luke 4:18).

Those who seek to distort the Bishop’s clarion call and his arrest by the state security agents are in fact the agents of insecurity, oppressors of the downtrodden and perpetrators of hunger deprivation, and divisiveness for pecuniary gains rather than the pursuers of our collective security and drive for the restoration of a new Nigeria.

The over concentration of political power at the centre, has perpetuated the non-productive concept of ‘National Cake’ through monthly fiscal distribution to the States and Local governments in the style of ‘Father Christmas’, has dampened the creative minds of our political leadership since none is challenged by the need for survivability of the constituencies under their control. This inverted approach to production and distribution of our commonwealth is in fact responsible for the cancerous corruption that has hindered the growth and development of our country.

The KSM recommends the following:
1. LET THE NATION LISTEN TO BISHOP KUKAH’S CLARION CALL.
2. LET NIGERIA RETRACE HER STEPS TO THE WISDOM OF OUR FOREFATHERS AS ENSHRINED IN THE 1960 CONSTITUTION BUT WITH THE NEW CONSTITUENCIES THAT DEFINE A SECULAR NIGERIA.
3. LET ALL PARTS OF NIGERIA HARKEN TO GOD’S WISDOM FOR PRODUCTIVITY SO THAT ALL OUR YOUTH MAY BE GAINFULLY ENGAGED AND CONTRIBUTE TOWARDS A REJUVENATED NEW NIGERIA.
4. LET ALL PUT OUR COLLECTIVE SECURITY ABOVE REGIME SECURITY AND YIELD TO THE NECESSITY OF A UNITED NIGERIA.
MAY ALMIGHTY GOD GRANT US THE SPIRIT OF UNIFICATION ABOVE ETHNIC AND SECTARIAN DIVIDES, THAT OUR RESOURCES MAY BE OPTIMIZED.

LONG LIVE THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA.
Sir Diamond Ovueraye KSM
Supreme Knight
