How Bag Of Rice, Chicken, Other Ransom Freed Enugu Monarch From Kidnappers
After spending four days with his abductors, the family of the traditional ruler of Nkalagu Obukpa community in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu state, Igwe James Agbogo, had to quickly mobilise N6 million, a bag of rice, one big chicken and a carton of wine to free him.
Igwe Agbogo was abducted on December 21, 2023 from his palace but eventually set free on Christmas day and was immediately taken to a hospital for medical attention over the trauma he suffered.
Village sources said the monarch was preparing for his coronation slated for December 28, when the abductors moved into his palace and picked him.
“He was preparing for his coronation on 28th December, 2023 having emerged as the Igwe-elect of the community. I can tell you that the Igwe regained freedom on Christmas day but he is in the hospital. He was shaken from the way he was abducted in his own palace,” a source in the village said.
It was gathered that his kidnap took place at Nkalagu-Obukpa last week Thursday at about 8pm after which the kidnappers demanded for the N6 million in addition to a bag of rice, a carton of wine and other food ingredients.
“The abductors insisted that all the items must be supplied or they would kill him. At that point, everyone had to rally round to make all the demanded items available so that the Igwe will be free.
“I can tell you that the entire community is in jubilation mood over the release of the monarch,” the source said.
