Huge Debt Revelation: You’re Incompetent — El-Rufai’s Son Knocks Gov Uba Sani

In what concerned insiders are already processing as another no-love-lost relationship between a political godfather and godson, a son of the immediate-past Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has accused his father’s successor, Governor Uba Sani of incompetence and poor performance.

Touting that the Rivers State drama between Governor Siminalaye Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike is looking likely to play out in the North West state of Kaduna, the insiders hinted that Bashir el-Rufai’s reaction to Governor Sani’s recent comments is a tell-tale sign that all is not well.

The tirades by young El-Rufai came on the heels of Governor Sani’s remarks that seem to raise questions about the performance status of his father’s eight-year administration in Kaduna State.

In a series of posts on X, Bashir El-Rufai said instead of admitting its incompetence, the Uba administration is regrettably resorting to deflecting the ineptitude by raising an alarm on a debt burden inherited from the El-Rufai administration.

Accusing the Governor of surrounding himself with “incompetent aides appointed for political patronage”, Bashir questioned the wisdom in “building a banquet hall for N7 billion” while in the same breath “lamenting about debt left by the previous administration.”

His post read thus; “These guys have realised they are wholly incompetent and the only way to mask the nonsense is to deflect from a Governor who is always sleeping in Abuja to a litany of incompetent aides who were only rewarded for foolish political reasons.

“One would think that from all the FAAC allocations these unserious clowns have changed to dollars, debt would be the least of their problems. The current administration in Kaduna is building a banquet hall for 7BN naira and is lamenting about debt left by the previous administration.”

As expected, the posts by the former governor’s son have continued to elicit reactions from both political camps with Governor Uba’s supporters throwing knocks at him, even as his fathers’ hordes of admirers are not giving an inch to be outdone in the brickbats.

Forefront News recalled that Governor Uba had, while addressing a town hall meeting in Kaduna on Saturday, disclosed that the current administration inherited a massive debt burden of $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 contractual liabilities from the El-Rufai-led government.

According to him, the huge debt burden was eating deep into the state’s federal allocation to the extent that N7 billion out of the N10 billion federal allocation for the state in March was deducted at source to service the state’s debt.

The governor explained that the development saw the state being left with a paltry N3 billion, which was not enough to pay workers’ salaries, given the monthly wage bill of about N5.2 billion.

Governor Uba however assured that; “Despite the huge debt burden of 587 million Dollars, 85 billion Naira, and 115 Contractual Liabilities sadly inherited from the previous administration, we remain resolute in steering Kaduna State towards progress and sustainable development”, adding; “We have conducted a thorough assessment of our situation and are sharpening our focus accordingly”.
