HURIWA Urges Wike To Embrace Peace, Reconciliation Like Fubara

A pro-democracy Advocacy organization on the aegis of Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), has urged Mr Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to embrace the virtues of reconciliation, peace, and respect for the office of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as displayed in abundance by the Governor of Rivers state, Sir Siminalayi Fubara.

HURIWA noted that whereas Governor Fubara has shown a phenomenal level of patience, zeal for peace, reconciliation and political stability amidst the turmoil instigated by political opponents and in the middle of an illegal suspension from his mandate as the sitting governor of Rivers State, the FCT minister who is the estranged political godfather of Fubara has continued to vibrate channel noises of defiance, belligerence, and has not showed any political will to allow peace to return to Rivers state.

The Rights organisation in a statement by Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, National Coordinator, said that it is instructive that whereas Governor Fubara has loudly called for peace, unity and good governance at Easter, Wike is still busy casting aspersions on all the efforts made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reconcile the warring parties and restore political stability, good governance and properly functional democratic structures in Rivers State.

HURIWA said; “It is sad that the FCT minister is still in the mood for a needless political war and is loudly canvassing the unconstitutional removal of a sitting governor of his state whom he worked to bring him to office only two years ago”.

It expressed disappointment and consternation that Wike is still nursing open antagonism and anger at his successor and has even expressed subtle disagreement with the president for proclamation of a state of emergency.

HURIWA noted that Wike, had stated that President Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers, did not meet his desire because he wanted the outright removal of Governor Fubara.

HURIWA urged Wike to respect the office of the President of Nigeria and stop beating the drums of war in Rivers state since such contradict what president Tinubu gave as his reason for declaring state of emergency in the state.
