Husband Beats Wife To Death Over Ramadan Food
BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – Tragedy took the centre stage in Bauchi on Saturday, March 1, 2025, being the first day of Ramadan as a 50 years old businessman allegedly beat his 24 years old wife to death over food items meant for the breaking of fast.
The Bauchi State Police Command quickly moved and arrested the 50-year-old husband by name, Alhaji Nuru Isah and is presently assisting the law enforcement in investigation.
The Police in Bauchi are already carrying out a discrete probe into the circumstances that led to the crime of alleged culpable homicide involving Isah and his 24 years old wife.
Speaking on the development, CSP Ahmed Wakili, spokesperson of the Bauchi State Police command, said the command was alerted of the alleged culpable homicide near Government Girls College, Fadamam Mada Area of Bauchi.
CSP Wakili in a statement on Sunday, March 2, 2025, said the incident was reported on March 1, 2025, at about 11:30 pm, adding that it arose from a misunderstanding between the husband, Alhaji Nuru Isah, aged 50, a business man at Central market Bauchi and his second wife, Wasila Abdullahi, aged 24.
The police said that the misunderstanding was as a result of the handling food ingredients and fruits designated for breaking the Ramadan fast, which escalated into a violent confrontation.
According to the police; “Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect, Alh Nuru Isah, is accused of using a cane to strike his wife, which resulted in her collapsing and becoming unconscious within their matrimonial residence.
“The victim was subsequently transported to ATBU Teaching Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed her death”.
The cane purportedly used during the assault has been recovered as exhibits, while the remains of the deceased has been deposited in the mortuary pending autopsy procedures.
The Commissioner of Police for the Bauchi State command, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad assured members of the public of justice which remains a priority of the Command.
The police therefore warned that domestic violence constitutes a serious offence with potentially devastating repercussions adding that every individual is entitled to reside in a safe and secure environment.
The police command said; “Collectively, we can foster a community that prioritises respect, empathy, and understanding”.
The command also reiterated its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of citizens while assuring that offenders of criminal activities are held accountable.
