Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara says he is willing to pay any price just to have peace and tranquility in the troubled oil-rich state.

Governor Fubara, who spoke during a special convocation ceremony at the Pamo University of Medical Sciences on Tuesday, 19th December 2023, said despite what the public opinion may be, there is no price too great for him to pay for peace to reign in his domain.

Obviously responding to criticisms that continued to trail the outcome of the Abuja peace meeting initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Rivers Chief Executive said good governance will only thrive in an atmosphere of peace and he is ready to make that happen in Rivers State even at the risk of personal sacrifice.

According to embattled Governor; “Let me say this to my dear state. I call you my dear state because the support you have shown to me within this period is unmeasurable.

“Ordinarily, I don’t even know them or have any contact with them but they stood by me. There is no amount that is too big to pay for peace. I will continue to pay it”.

The last two months has seen the battle for wits between the Governor and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike bringing division in the State House of Assembly with 27 lawmakers defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State.

Besides the defection, which is in deference to their political mentor and immediate past Governor Wike, currently the serving Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the current crisis has also seen nine (9) commissioners resigning from Fubara’s cabinet, citing personal reasons for their actions.
