BY ONYEKACHUKWU IBEZIM – The Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi says that despite mounting challenges and obvious machinations by political opponents, his administration will finish strong to complete its tenure come May 29, 2023.

Reacting to Friday’s ruling by the Appeal Court sitting in Enugu, which affirmed the Ebonyi High court judgment on his defection, Governor Umahi, who presided over the weekly State Executive Council meeting, congratulated the Ebonyi people over the development and thanked various religious bodies for their prayers.

According to Governor Umahi; “The enemies have tried using the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the courts but failed. They are presently writing all forms of frivolous petitions to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). We will, however, defeat them anywhere they go and would finish strongly.”

The Governor said God brought his government to power and will never abandon it, saying; “The good thing is that people know the challenges are a mere storm in a teacup and distractions.

“We will conduct a special praise and worship service on Sunday to thank God for His mercies on the government and the people. We will sing praises unto God because he has turned big in everything that concerns us.”

The suit challenging Governor Umahi’s defection was filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s candidates in the 2019 general election, Senator Sunny Ogbuoji, and his running mate, Chief Justin Ogodo.

The plaintiffs had approached the Ebonyi State High Court praying that it orders INEC to swear them in as the State Governor and Deputy Governor having come second in the gubernatorial election.

However, the Court had dismissed the suit challenging Governor Umahi’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in November 2020 for lacking in merit. – With NAN reports
