Plateau State Governor, Mr Caleb Mutfwang has declared that he was under intense pressure by some powerful and influential political stakeholders to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC.
Governor Mutfwang, who stated this on Saturday during an event at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Jos, however, vowed not to leave the PDP that gave him the mandate of a governor.
Mutfwang, who is aspiring to recontest his position in 2027, emphasised that only God and the people who elected him into office have the authority to determine his political allegiance.
According to him; “It is not a lie that they also put pressure on me and are still mounting pressure on me, but I told them that only two people would authorise me to change my party. One is the God of heaven, then the other is you, the people.”
He then turned to the audience and asked; “Have you asked me to go anywhere?” The crowd responded with a resounding “No!”
Governor Mutfwang remarks come a few weeks after APC stakeholders in Plateau State publicly opposed moves that he was planning to join their party.
At the APC stakeholders’ meeting in Jos, members unanimously rejected a motion suggesting the governor’s possible admission into the party.
