Human rights activist and convener of #RevolutionNow, Omoyele Sowore, along with the legal counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, Mr Aloy Ejimakor, and 12 others, on Monday, October 27, 2025, regained their freedom from the Kuje Correctional Centre after meeting their bail conditions.
They were arrested and later detained last week for participating in the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protests in the Federal Capital Territory during which they demanded for the immediate release of the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
Sowore told journalists shortly after his release that his arrest and detention were “illegal and unjust,” castigated the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, for what he described as “a politically motivated clampdown”.
Sowore said; “Finally, we have been released from an illegal and unjust arrest by the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, orchestrated by the illegal IGP Kayode Egbetokun, and we are heading home”.
The activist particularly noted that security agencies particularly the Nigeria police Force have consistently failed in their constitutional duties.
In the words of Sowore; “This is not the first time the people who are paid to protect lives have turned around to do the opposite. Nobody can warn me of my right, I know my right”.
Sowore was arrested last week Friday at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where he had gone to show solidarity with Nnamdi Kanu, who is standing trial for treason.
The arrest of Sowore followed that of the legal counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, Mr Aloy Ejimakor and Prince Emmanuel Kanu, who were arrested during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest last week Monday, October 20, 2027.
