INEC Declares Aiyedatiwa Winner Of Ondo State Governorship Election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Sunday, November 17, 2024, declared Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in Ondo State.
The Returning officer of the election, who is also the Vice Chancellor of Federal University, Lokoja, Prof. Akinwumi Olayemi Durotimi, while announcing the result in Akure, the state capital, said that Aiyedatiwa polled a total of 366,781 to beat his closest rival, Mr Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who recorded 117,845 just as the candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Olorunfemi Festus polled 1162.
Prof. Durotimi then declared that Governor Aiyedatiwa having polled the highest number of votes in the election is the winner of the election.
Governor Aiyedatiwa ran against Mr Agboola Ajayi of the PDP and Olorunfemi Festus of the LP as well as Abbas Mimiko of Zenith Labour Party, among others.
Prof. Durotimi declared; “Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of the APC having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of lawful votes cast, is hereby returned elected”.
Aiyedatiwa, who hails from Ilaje Local Government Area, situated in the Southern senatorial district of Ondo State, succeeded the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on December 27, 2023.
