INEC Declares LP’s Otti As Winner Of Abia Governorship Election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 declared Dr Alex Otti, the governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) as the Governor-elect of Abia State.
With his victory which was announced after four days when the conduct of the governorship election took place, (Saturday, March 18), the Labour Party has recorded its first governorship contest in the country.
Announcing the results of the election for which collation was halted on Monday, the INEC Returning Officer for the Governorship election in Abia State, Prof. Nnena Oti said that before the end of the collation on Wednesday evening, the result from Obingwa Local Government Area was added to the collation by the returning officer of the LGA.
Prof Oti announced that the Labour Party candidate, Dr. Alex Otti polled a total of 175,467 votes to beat his closest rival, Mr. Okey Ahiwe of the PDP who recorded 88,529 votes and was followed by Ikechi Emenike of the APC who polled 24,091 votes.
Accordingly, Prof. Oti declared Dr. Alex Otti is duly returned as the Governor-elect of Abia State having won the highest number of votes cast.
