INEC Declares Oyebanji Winner Of Ekiti Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the early hours of Sunday, June 21, 2026, Oyebanji Abiodun Abayomi as the winner of Saturday Ekiti State Governorship election.

The INEC Returning officer for the Governorship election, Professor Adenike Oladiji, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of FUTA declared that Governor Oyebanji have scored the highest number of votes cat and having satisfied the requirements of the law, and the Electoral Act 2026, was return as duly elected as winner of the Governorship election.

The Returning officer declared; “I, Professor Adenike Oladiji hereby declare that Oyebanji Abiodun Abayomi, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is duly elected and stands re-elected”.

Expectedly, the hall erupted with shouts of victory as APC supporters’ chants drowned out the hum of generators.

The collation of the results of the election as tabulated by officials of INEC indicated that Governor Oyebanji of the APC pulled a total of 319,224 votes to trounce his closest rival
Olumayokun Oluyede of the PDP who recorded 40,533 votes
and was followed by Oluwadare Bejide of the ADC with 12,872 votes.

However, out of the 988,251 registered voters, only 384,940 participated in the election as 382,109 votes were casted while 375,777 were counted as valid.

The results also showed that Governor Oyebanji won all 16 local governments including Efon Local Government Area which is the PDP candidate’s home base.

The Efon votes showed that the APC pulled 8,742 votes while the PDP recorded 2,051 while the ADC got 201.

Similarly, from Ado-Ekiti to Irepodun/Ifelodun, Ekiti West to Ikole, Ijero to Moba and Ekiti East, the APC overran the PDP

Which provided the bases for Oyebanji clear path to walk freely back into Government House for a second term on office.
