BY AMOS TAUNA, KADUNA – The gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), in Kaduna State, Mr. Polycarp Gankon, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to be neutral in the conduct of the forthcoming general elections in order to ensure a peaceful exercise in the country.

Gankon, who made the call on Monday at a press conference in Kaduna, alleged that he was robbed of electoral victory in the 2015 gubernatorial election in the state largely because of the activities of INEC.

According to him; “I had to drag the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to court, because of the irregularities we later discovered in the whole exercise in the state. Even when I challenged the result of the election at the tribunal, INEC brought judgment instead of justice.

“I have promised never to compromise the wishes of the good people of Kaduna state and will not in any way be answerable to anybody called godfather. I have decided to be myself and give the people of the state what l promised them if voted into power.

“I don’t have godfather because of the negative effect it has against positive development, fair play and purposeful leadership to the electorates.

“I intend, God willing, if given the mandate, to operate an all-inclusive government that will carry every segment of the state along for fairness and justice on anything that affects the general good of the people.

“As an agricultural researcher, l have a blueprint that is meant to ensure total transformation in the agricultural sector because l have gone round all the 23 Local Government Areas in the state while working with Ahmadu Bello University and know what every local government can sufficiently produce.”

He explained that irrigation which is the main stay of agriculture has not been fully exploited by the previous administrations in the state, adding that as an agricultural researcher, he has what it takes to ensure agricultural revolution in Kaduna state.

On the security challenges facing the state, he said there was the need for people oriented programme that would ensure the participation of all so that all will be carried along to avoid suspicion.

“As the motor of APGA, we truly want to be our neighbour’s keepers in all we do irrespective of any difference but to ensure that everybody is fairly treated as it ought to be,” he explained.
