Police Shot Dead Three Suspected Kidnappers In Taraba
BY AMEH IDUJAGI, JALINGO – The Taraba State Police Command on Monday said its operatives attached to Bali Division on Sunday shot dead three suspected kidnappers terrorising people around Bali and Suntai axis of the state.
This was contained in a statement issued on Monday in Jalingo by the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr David Akinremi.
Akinremi further said that the operatives of the command attached to Bali division on Sunday engaged a Kidnap syndicate that has been terrorising Bali and Suntai axis for the past six months.
He further said; “Some of the bandits were fatally wounded when the operatives engaged them in a gun battle while attempting to kidnap some residents of a house in Garwa village in Bali having held the entire family hostage.
The prompt response by the gallant operatives with the assistance of the men of the State Vigilante Group resulted in a shootout which led to the death of three of the hoodlums, while a member of the Vigilante Group sustained injury from the gun shots by the hoodlums.”
The police boss in Taraba state said that items recovered from the hoodlums include, one locally fabricated AK47 rifle, twelve rounds of .9mm ammunition, two GSM handset, a military camouflage, some criminal charms and knives amongst others.
He also said that some members of the criminal gangs escaped with bullet wounds, adding however that a massive manhunt is ongoing to effect their arrest.
The Police Commissioner warned criminal elements operating in the state to have a rethink and turn away from their criminal activities stressing that the Command is determined to make the state an unfriendly terrain for criminals.
Akinremi also called on members of the public to assit the police by giving useful information on criminal elements in their communities.
