Insecurity: PMB Gives Service Chiefs Marching Order

BY AMOS DUNIA, ABUJA – President Muhammadu Buhari, who on return from the United Kingdom had vowed in a broadcast to the nation to deal decisively with problems of insecurity, on Tuesday directed the military and other security agencies to, as a matter of importance, go all out and secured the country from all forms of threats to its security and unity.

President Buhari, who gave the directive at a meeting with Service Chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, equally said his directives must be carried out swiftly in all parts of the country.

Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin told journalists shortly after the meeting that the President insisted some specifics in certain areas should be looked into so as to enhance the military and security operations in the country.

According to General Olonisakin, “We have all been fully instructed to ensure the directive is carried out to the letter.

“The President wants a holistic treatment of all security threats, ranging from terrorism to kidnapping, herdsmen/farmers clash, IPOB with dispatch.”

The Chief of Defence Staff assured that the military is going to enhance its operations in all the areas required to do so, adding that the President’s directive will be carried out to the latter by the military and the security agencies.

He also said, “The President also directed that we must ensure the lives and property of the citizens are protected and we must make sure that we secure the whole nation and also the troops that are outside carry out their jobs effectively.”

Commenting on the upsurge in Boko Haram’s activities, General Olonisakin explained that the fight against the insurgents is not conventional, but an asymmetric warfare, saying the Boko Haram terrorists merely stepped up their game of suicide bombings.

He said the military was working with other security and intelligence agencies to ensure the menace of the insurgents is addressed.
