A former Director at the National War College, Navy Commodore Bode George (retd), has faulted the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye’s call on Service Chiefs to resign from their positions if they are unable to curtail insurgency and other forms of insecurity in the country.

Chief Bode George pointedly said that the responsibility of tackling and curtailing insecurity in the country lies squarely with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is the Commander-in-Chief and not Service Chiefs.

The former Naval Chief in a statement on Friday, June 5, 2026, declared that it was not proper for Pastor Adeboye to direct his focus on the Service Chiefs urging them to resign in 90 days if they fail to curtail insecurity in the country.

Chief George, who Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), also urged Pastor Adegboye should instead tell President Tinubu to stop insecurity within 90 days or resign, and not the service chiefs.

Pastor Adeboye, had during a sermon, expressed sadness over what he described as “the escalating insecurity” situation in Nigeria.

But, George in the statement said; “No one is saying that Pastor Adeboye should be in charge as the Commander-in-Chief, no! That is not even possible, but that advice should be given to the President, not the Service Chiefs.

“The President is the person responsible for making sure that all Nigerians are protected and safe. It is as like someone from outside the newsroom telling the line editors that they need to make sure the newspaper has exclusive stories on the first page, or else they should leave their job within 90 days. That isn’t someone from outside doing it. That is the work of the Daily Editor.

“If there are no stories to sell, the newspaper won’t have anything to offer, and if the editor isn’t strong enough to make the line editors work properly, then it will be the editor who has to look for a job in the labour market. Simple.

“Tinubu appointed the service chiefs. If they are not performing, he can tell them they have to improve or he can let them go,” he said.
