BY EDMOND ODOK – Anticipation is buzzing across the nation and beyond as the stage is set to host one of Africa’s most moving celebrations of art, literature, and cultural identity, the Magnus Oku Books and Arts Fiesta 2025
According to the organiser, Magnus Oku, this is not just any programme but a powerful call to action for storytellers, visionaries, and culture-bearers to unite and reignite the flames of creativity.

Oku, who is an author and a cultural advocate, said that with the Cyprian Ekwensi Arts and Crafts Centre in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), slated to host the event on Thursday, 25th September 2025, this edition of the Fiesta promises to be the most memorable yet.
He said, “We’re not just organizing a festival; we’re sparking a movement. This is a celebration of Africa’s spirit, through books, drama, performance, and art. It’s truly a celebration of who we are.”
Further describing it as a “celebration where stories, songs and scenes come alive”, Oku said that at the core of the Fiesta is a dedication to amplifying the diverse voices of Africa, both old and new, urban and traditional, fierce and tender.
“This year’s event will unfold across stages, galleries, reading lounges, and open spaces, transforming the venue into a lively tapestry of performances and ideas”, he said.
Confirmed highlights for the Fiesta include: Live readings and book signings with both celebrated and emerging authors; Stage plays, poetry slams, and spoken word showcases that ignite the spirit; Art exhibitions, interactive displays, and live painting sessions; and Cultural parades and traditional storytelling from various regions of Nigeria and beyond.
Others are: Dedicated reading corners for children, plus art classes and creative writing workshops; Youth-focused discussions on innovation, literature, and digital arts; as well as Awards recognizing outstanding contributions to literature and the arts.
Oku also hinted that, from wide-eyed children listening to tales, to young authors sharing their first works, the Fiesta is crafted as an inclusive and immersive experience for all ages.
He said, adding colour to the significance of the 2025 edition is the enthusiastic participation of national leaders who recognize the vital role arts and culture play in shaping society and empowering youth.
Listed among dignitaries expected to grace the events are the Minister of Youth Development, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Minister of Labour and Employment, Minister of Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy.
The Cultural Activist explained that the presence of these eminent personalities will reinforce a shared vision that creativity is not just a form of entertainment; it’s a crucial catalyst for innovation, unity, and social progress.
For him, “In a world where distractions vie for our attention and cultural erosion jeopardizes authenticity, the Magnus Oku Books and Arts Fiesta emerges as a welcomed homecoming for Africa’s creative spirit. This year’s theme rings with urgency: celebrate, educate, empower.
“The Fiesta serves as a reminder that: – Books are bridges that connect generations, regions, and ideas. – Art is a mirror reflecting the beauty, complexity, and resilience of our people. – Performance is protest, storytelling is healing, and creativity drives transformation.”
“Books are not merely ink on paper—they are vessels of legacy. Art is not just decoration; it is truth made visible,” Oku affirms.
With a rich experience of authoring many books, Oku said, “Whether you are a writer looking for your first readers, a teacher moulding minds, a student discovering your passion, or simply a culture enthusiast, this Fiesta calls you in.
“From libraries to living rooms, classrooms to council chambers, the Magnus Oku Books and Arts Fiesta 2025 invites Nigeria and the continent to come together, share their stories, and shine.”
