Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on which platform he contested and became President, now belongs to his past, thereby signalling his formal disengagement from partisan politics.

Obasanjo, who stated this at the unavailing of the VIP lodge at the Osun State Government House, Oshogbo, on Sunday, May 12, 2024, said that his leaving the PDP equally marked withdrawal from active partisan politics.

He commended Governor Ademola Adeleke for his efforts in fostering unity within the PDP and among its members in the state.

While expressing his belief in the significance of unity within the party, Obasanjo said that what he witnessed during his three days stay in the state is commendable.

He said; “I had previously reached out to you advising that while you enjoy the political dance, ensure your focus remains on governance and progress.”

While acknowledging his past association with the party, Obasanjo noted the efforts by Governor Adeleke in convening a meeting with party leaders that included Senator Olu Alabi, Alhaji Fatai Akinbade and former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola.

The former President emphasised the importance of inclusivity and therefore urged Governor Adeleke to engage all stakeholders for the collective benefit of the party, the state, and the nation at large.
