Jubilation Galore As Enyimba’s Player, Dayo Ojo Regains Freedom

BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI – Celebrations are still on in the camp of Enyimba International following the release of their abducted midfielder, Dayo Ojo, from captivity.
Reports said with social distancing advisory taking the backstage, it was jubilation galore for the Aba-based club as news broke that the home-based Super Eagles player has regained freedom after spending more than 72 hours in the hands of his abductors,
He was kidnapped alongside fellow footballer, Benjamin Iluyomade of Abia Commets while travelling home due to the suspension of Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) over the coronavirus threat in the country.
Enyimba’s management confirmed on the Club’s twitter handle late Wednesday that both players have been released by their abductors.

Our midfielder man, Dayo Ojo has regained freedom from his kidnappers 💪👏
According to a press statement by the People’s Elephant, the players were set free after spending about three days in the kidnapers’ den.
The statement said; “Enyimba midfielder Ekundayo Ojo and Abia Comets’ Benjamin Iluyomade, who were kidnapped on Sunday have regained their freedom.
“The footballers were released on Wednesday night following the combined efforts of Enyimba Football Club and the families of the players.”
It further stated that; “The players have since reunited with their families.”
Both players fell into the hands of unknown gunmen on their way home from camp on Sunday in the wake of the NPFL’s suspension owing to the Covid-19 outbreak.
The incident took place along the Benin-Owo expressway with the duo of Ojo and Iluyomade taken away by the gun-trotting abductors while their fellow player and third occupant in the car, Emmanuel James was able to escape from the scene unhurt.
