A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Tuesday sentenced Mr Farouk Lawan to seven years imprisonment for collecting $500,000 as bribe from Billionaire businessman, Mr Femi Otedola.
Lawan was the Chairman of the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on Petroleum Subsidy during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The trial Judge, Justice Angela Otaluka found Farouk guilty on count one, two, and three bothering on corruptly asking for and obtaining same from Femi Otedola, in order to exonerate Zelon Petroleum and Gas Limited from the list of companies in the fuel subsidy scam.
On count one and two the court sentenced Lawan to seven years while he was sentenced to fives years on count three.
The sentences are however to run concurrently.
The court equally ordered Farouk to refund the $500,000 to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
