JUST IN: Fire Guts Finance Ministry Building In Abuja
An early Wednesday’s morning fire outbreak has been recorded at the Federal Ministry of Finance Headquarters located in the Central Business District (CBD), Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The Complex, which also houses the Budget Office of Federation, is adjacent to some States Liaison Offices including Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Lagos among other massive public buildings in the area.
Though details of the fire incident remained sketchy as of the time of filing this report, Forefront gathered that firefighters from the Federal Fire Service and some workers were already at the scene to extinguish the fire.
The Ministry environment and the surrounding areas were covered with black smoke coming from parts of the building located along the Ahmadu Bello in the Nation’s capital city.
A Ministry staff, who preferred anonymity, stated that indeed there was a fire incident between last night and early this morning (Wednesday) but it has since been put out by the Fire Service men.
Confirming the incident, Spokesperson of the Federal Fire Service, Abraham Paul, said their personnel were effectively deployed to the scene to address the situation given the importance of the Finance Ministry to National security.
He said the though the Service is yet to fully ascertain the cause of the fire, reports at their disposal indicated that the incident arose from a spark that occurred in the room housing the Ministry’s inverters and their timing intervention was able to bring the situation under control.
