JUST IN: Flood Hits Jalingo, Submerges Over 100 Houses

BY AMEH IDUJAGI, JALINGO – Heavy rainfall which caused serious floods in the early hours of Saturday, took over most parts of Jalingo, th Taraba State capital, submerging over 100 houses.

This was just as over 40 residents were trapped in their houses as a result of the flood but were later rescued by valiant men while properties worth millions of naira were washed away in the floods.

Our correspondent who went round Jalingo after the floods had receded, reports that over 100 houses situated by the banks of River Mayogwoi and Lamurde were submerged.

An official of Red Cross who dooes not want his name in print, said that the flood was caused by blockage of drainages at the Mayoqwoi bridge causing so much devastation in Jalingo town.

The Red Cross official said that personnel of the humanitarian service have been drafted to the affected areas for rescue operations, adding that no loss of life was recorded as at the time of this report.

The heavy downpour which started in Jalingo at about 11:00pm on Friday night lasted for over five hours.
