BY VICTOR BUORO, ABUJA – Eight Governors on the aegis of the Progressives Governors Forum on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) are presently locked in a meeting at the Party’s National Secretariat, situated at Wuse II, Abuja, with the National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole over issues relating to the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in Edo and Ondo States.

While eight of the APC governors are believed to be at the meeting, embattled Governor Godwin Obaseki is conspicuously missing from the venue, even as his Ondo State counterpart, also facing election in October, is said to be participating actively at the crucial stakeholders’ meeting.

Competent sources hinted that Obaseki’s absence may not be unconnected with pieces of information being put together that he is making last minute moves aimed at switching to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) where he hopes to pick the Party’s nomination form.

The APC Governors’ engagement with Comrade Oshiomhole, the sources said is obviously in continuation of efforts to build consensus around the Party’s resolution on the mode of primaries to be adopted for Edo and Ondo States guber races.

Interestingly, the sale and submission of nomination forms based on the Time Table drawn and approved by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC is expected to close on Wednesday, June 3, 2020.

Governor Obaseki, who was among the APC Governors that met with the Party’s National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lagos on Sunday, is believed to have felt terrible that his colleagues could not extract for him a favourable outcome, thus his feeling of losing the battle in the attempt to fly APC’s ticket for second tenure.

It was learnt that the meeting with Tinubu may have made Governor Obaseki to realize that his days in the ruling APC were numbered owing to the resolutions that pointedly dismissed request by the Progressives Governors for a ‘right of first refusal’ which is not known to the APC’s constitution.

As at the time of filing this report, it was not known if Governor Obaseki would eventually decide to join his colleagues at the APC National Secretariat for the meeting.
