BY SEGUN ADEBAYO, ABUJA – The Association of Kado Fish Market Traders has called on Minister of the Federal Capital Authority (FCT), Mallam Mohammed Musa Bello, to fix the road and provide stable power to the Kado Fish Market.

Making this appeal recently when he presented a cheque of Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N250,000) to Assistant Superintendent of Police Mr. Abdul Ochai Ogbe (retd) organized by the Association, the chairman of the Association, Mallam Mohammed Ibrahim, said the major challenges being faced by both his members and customers are the absence of good road and epileptic power supply.

“What is giving us sleepless nights now is that our customers are finding it increasingly difficult to carry out their goods outside the market because of bad roads just as our members are also experiencing problems with the power supply to preserve our cold rooms. We call on the FCT authorities to fix the road and ensure a stable power supply to make business easy.

“The Kado Fish Market is not just limited to buying and selling like every other market, but we are also producing fishes, named Finger list, Standard Juvenile, etc. The name, Kado Fish Market has gone viral and has gained worldwide recognition, and people from different countries come here for patronage.

“Farmers around the six states are also coming here to buy their fish, but we are still facing some of the above-mentioned challenges. The government and relevant authorities should come to our aid”, Mallam Ibrahim pleaded.

While presenting the cheque to ASP Ochai on behalf of the association, the leader of the traders said that the association decided to honour the retired police officer in recognition of his selfless services to the association and the general public.

“Mr. Abdul Ochai remains the only officer that was in charge of Kado Fish Market and his service lasted for four years. During his service, he reduced our problems to the barest minimum”, the chairman said.

The Assistant Secretary of the Association, Alhaji Mohammed Salifu commended the efforts of the retired police officer as worthy of emulation, saying, “ASP Ochai did very well and those in service should learn from his legacy.”
