Kaduna Crisis: AGA Governorship Candidate Calls For Restraint, Understanding
BY AMOS TAUNA, KADUNA – The gubernatorial candidate of All Grassroots Alliance (AGA), in Kaduna State, Alhaji Ahmad Tijjani Umar, has called on the people of the state to exercise restraint in ensuring the sustenance of peace, unity and development.
Umar in a statement he issued in the wake of insecurity leading to the killings at Kasuwan Magani in Kajuru Local Government Area that spilled over to some parts of Kaduna metropolis, called on the people to show high sense of maturity in handling the issue for harmonious relationship among the diverse nationalities in the state.
He expressed shock and great concern over the alleged rumour that nearly led to the breakdown of law and order resulting in the imposition of 24 hour curfew in Kaduna and its environs by the state government.
Umar further said; “The prompt action taken by the state government and the strict compliance of government order by the security personnel in ensuring the people abide with the order given to ensure orderliness and peaceful coexistence in Kaduna metropolis and its environs is commendable.
“The cooperation of citizens towards the observance of the curfew imposed by the state government is a manifestation that Nigerians desire peace and understanding in order to forge ahead as a people and go about their civic responsibilities is a pointer that we are indeed lovers of peace.”
While condemning the violence that erupted at Kasuwa Magani that led to the loss of lives and destruction of property of unimaginable magnitude, Umar said steps must be taken by the state government to unearth the perpetrators of the unfortunate act to serve as a deterrent to others.
Umar also said; “Peace must be seen to be maintained. Avenues must be explored by government, security personnel and stakeholders towards ensuring lasting peace in the state.
“I appeal to religious and traditional leaders to live up to their responsibilities towards inculcating norms and values in the hearts of citizens for proper understanding, respect and harmonious relationship of one another that will ensure a better society.”
