The Kaduna State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has indefinitely suspended the impeached council chairman, Comrade Garba Mohammed, for dragging the council to the National Industrial Court (NIC) in defiance to the constitution of the union.
A communiqué issued on Wednesday and signed by the council secretary, Alhaji Dauda Idris Doka, after a congress on Tuesday explained that the congress, also suspended indefinitely, barred from entering the council secretariat and covering the activities of the council, Abubakar Abba, Balarabe Lawal Zaria and Habib Bello who swore on oath to the writ of summon on the same matter.
For effective running of the affairs of the council, a new standing and ad-hoc committee on Ethics and Disciplinary Committee to be chaired by Mr Andrew Fadason was constituted.
Other committees included Welfare, Monitoring and Productivity Committee, to be chaired by Dominic Uzu, the Press Centre Management Committee ( PCMC), to be chaired by Elder Tajudeen Ajibade, the Peace and Reconciliatory committee, to be chaired by Shuaibu Gimi, Screening Committee to be chaired by Peter Yaro and the Elders and Advisory Committee to be chaired by Elder Joseph Edegbo.
A proposed Media Resource Centre, Multipurpose hall and library, as well as Peace Garden to be built within the premises of the secretariat in collaboration with a consultant was adopted by the congress.
The congress commended Kaduna State government and the security agencies for their efforts in tackling security challenges in Southern Kaduna and urged them to sustain the tempo.
The congress pledged to assist the Kaduna State and Federal governments in whatever way possible to find lasting solutions to security challenges in the state.
The congress frowned at the fractured relationship between the council and the state government and resolved to set up a committee that would foster ways of cementing the relationship.
The congress harped on professional ethics and conducts of members and vows to discipline any erring member.
