Kaduna Violence: Gov el-Rufai Orders Arrest, Prosecution of Culprits

BY VICTOR BUORO, ABUJA – About seven people were reportedly killed with over 15 others injured as pandemonium broke out in Kaduna State due to violence by some youths in Kasuwan Magani, Kajuru local government area of the state.

According to eyewitness accounts, many houses were torched during the incident with motorists having to retreat hurriedly to avoid being caught in the crisis that engulfed the area.

Forefront gathered from competent sources that the incidence may not be unconnected with the alleged abduction and forced conversion of some girls by a religious group operating within the area.

Competent sources within the Nigeria Police Force confirmed that there has been massive deployment of security personnel in the area as part of measures to calm frayed nerves among the warring youths.

A statement by Samuel Aruwan, Senior Media Assistant to Governor Nasir el-Rufai also said the Governor has ordered the arrest and prosecution of all persons responsible for the chaos.

The statement further said; “Security agencies must investigate this unfortunate incident, arrest and make available for prosecution the perpetrators.”

The Governor’s spokesperson also stated that “The government condemns the violence and regrets the wanton shattering of lives”, adding that the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency has been directed by Governor el-Rufai to urgently take inventory of damages and provide relief materials to the victims with immediate effect.

Located on the federal highway linking Kaduna state with Plateau, Nasarawa and Benue states, Kasuwan Magani area is about 31 kilometers drive from the Kaduna City Centre (KCC).
