Kano: Gov Yusuf Submits Names Of Six Commissioner Nominees To Assembly
BY IBRAHIM SALISU FAGGAE, KANO – Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has forwarded the names of six persons as Commissioner nominees to the State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
The Speaker of the House, Hon Ismail Jibrin Falgore announced this on Monday, December 16, 2024 while reading the governor’s letter at plenary.
The six nominees include; Shehu Wada Sagagi, Dr Dahiru Mohd Hashim, Ibrahim Abdullahi Wayya, Dr. Isma’il Dan Maraya, Gaddafi Sani Shehu and Abdulkadir AbdulSalam.
Governor Yusuf last week Thursday, December 12, 2024, announced a reshuffle of his Executive Council that witnessed a major political realignment in the administration.
A statement by Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano stated that Governor Yusuf carried out his first major rejig of his cabinet which took immediate effect.
Bature said Governor Yusuf the decision was to enable Governor Yusuf optimise his performance to drive more dividend of democracy to the people of Kano state.
He announced that those affected in the major shake up included the Chief of Staff, Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi, whose office was scrapped while the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi was dropped on health ground.
The statement further said that Governor Yusuf sacked some of the cabinet members as well as reassigned others to enhance administrative performance and political retooling.
The commissioners that retained their positions were the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Alhaji Haruna Isa Dederi, Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran, Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning, Hon. Abduljabbar Mohammed Umar, Commissioner for Budget and Planning Hon Musa Suleiman Shannon and Commissioner for Works and Housing Engr. Marwan Ahmad.
The list of the retained cabinet members included; Commissioner for Solid and Mineral Resources, Sefiyanu Hamza, Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Shiekh Ahmad Tijani Auwal, Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, Commissioner for Investment and Commerce, Adamu Aliyu Kibiya and that of Internal Security and Special Services, Major General Mohammad Inuwa Idris Rtd.
The statement further said that those reassigned are the Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulssalam, who was moved from the Ministry of Local Government to Higher Education, Hon. Mohammad Tajo Usman from Science and Technology to the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata from Higher Education to Science, Technology and Innovation.
Others include Hon. Amina Abdullahi from Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation to Ministry for Women, Children and Disable, Hon. Nasiru Sule Garo, from Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to Ministry of Special Duties.
Commissioner for Project Monitory and Evaluation Hon. Ibrahim Namadi now moved to Ministry of Transport, while Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa of Ministry of Education now moved to Ministry of Water Resources.
Those reassigned included; Hon. Ali Haruna Makoda from Water Resources to the Ministry of Education, Hon. Aisha Lawal Saji from Ministry of Women, Children and Disable to Tourism and Culture, and Hon. Muhammad Diggol from Transport to Ministry of Project Monitoring and Evaluation.
Commissioners that were dropped by Governor Yusuf include; Ibrahim Jibril Fagge – Finance Ministry, Ladidi Ibrahim Garko – Culture and Tourism; Baba Halilu Dantiye – Information and Internal Affairs, Shehu Aliyu Yammedi – Special Duties and Abbas Sani Abbas – Rural and Community Development.
The Governor however directed the Chief of Staff and the five commissioners that were dropped to report to the office of the Governor for possible reassignment.
