Kidnappers Free Ex-Nasarawa Deputy Gov After N4m Ransom
Relief has come the way of family members of the former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Prof Onje Gye-Wado, with his release from the kidnappers’ den on easter Sunday.
The Professor of Law, who was abducted on Thursday night from his country home in Rinza, near Wamba, the headquarters of Wamba Local Government Area of the state, eventually regained freedom following the payment of N4 million ransom to his abductors.
Reports said his kidnappers had initially demanded a ransom of N70 million, but the family negotiated from N2 million and later N3.5 million, before finally paying N4 million to secure his release.
According to a family source, “The kidnappers collected the ransom near Mada Hills Secondary School in Akwanga, with a 200 Naira recharge card, after which he was freed from their den close to Angwan Chiyawa, close to those hills between Akwanga and Nasarawa Eggon.”
The source further confirmed that Prof Gye-Wado was taken to the Palace of the paramount ruler of Wamba, Oriye Rindre, Justice Lawal Musa Nagogo, upon his release after about three days in captivity.
Also confirming the good news through a text message, a former Chairman of Nigeria Union Of Journalists (NUJ), Nasarawa State Council, and also one-time Commissioner of Information in the State, Mr Dogo Shamma, said; “To God be the Glory Prof. Onje, has finally been released from the hands of kidnappers just now.”
