La Liga: Sevilla Women Snap Barcelona 62-Match Winning Streak
Finally, a stubborn Sevilla Women side have ended Barcelona Femeni’s incredible 62-match La Liga winning streak and quest for second perfect season in a row.
On Wednesday night, Barcelona Femeni saw their dreams of another stainless season evaporate as they had to dig deep before earning a 1-1 draw against an impressive Sevilla team.
After going down 1-0, Barca could only managed a late equalizer in the 80th minute, but could not eventually find the winner as their hosts held on tenaciously to end proceedings at one-all.
Before Wednesday’s game, Barcelona, seeking to complete a second consecutive perfect La Liga campaign, had won their first 27 games. In total, their winning tally stood at 62 league games in a row. However, the streak did not extend to European competition.
In the encounter, Ana-Maria Crnogorcevic scored for Barcelona in the 80th minute to give her team a chance at continuing their streak, but despite 24 shots and 84 per cent ball possession, the Catalan giants could not find another breakthrough past the dogged Sevilla defence.
But despite this rare dropping the points, Barcelona are on their way to winning La Liga in absurd fashion, as they currently boast a goal differential of +106 through 28 games and are well clear of second-placed Real Madrid.
Additionally, they are in the Women’s Champions League (UWCL) final after defeating Chelsea 2-1 over two legs.
The UWCL final against German side, Wolfsburg is scheduled for June 3, 2023, at the Philips Stadion in the Netherlands.
