Arising from its poor showing during the March 18 gubernatorial election, the Cross River chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has constituted a reconciliation and disciplinary committee to resolve the lingering disputes within its ranks in the state.

The State LP Chairman, Comrade Ogar Osim, who disclosed the development in Calabar, the State capital on Wednesday, said the idea of constituting the Committee is based on the directive of the Party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, that all issues affecting the party in Cross River should be resolved peacefully.

A statement by Comrade Osim further stated that; “It has become exigent to constitute a reconciliation and disciplinary committee to mediate and reconcile all parties concerned”, adding that; “The mandate of this committee is with immediate effect as the need to restore peace and unity in our party cannot further be delayed”.

The statement explained that the 13-member committee has Alvin Ochang as its chairman with representatives drawn from both the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

Recalled that some aggrieved LP members had, on the eve of the March 18 gubernatorial poll, revolted and pledged their support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Cross River, Senator Sandy Onor.

This development was despite the Labour Party having its governorship candidate in the person of Mr Ogar Osim, who also doubles as the Party chairman in the state. – NAN
