BY AHMED TUKUR, LAFIA – The arrival and departure halls of the Lafia Airport, located in Kwandere, are currently in a state of structural decay, thereby raising concerns about the condition of facilities that are being installed for the use of passengers.
A visit to the airport showed that the floors of both halls have seriously deteriorated as several floor tiles have peeled off thereby making the halls unhabitable.
Clearly, the damaged tiles could pose a safety risk and cause discomfort to passengers using the facility.
Similarly, the airport’s VIP lounge is also in a bad state as the room has been overtaken by cobwebs just as most of the floor tiles are damaged and in need of replacement.
There are other sections of the airport building that are badly affected, with parts of the ceiling of the facility showing signs of leakages from the roof top.
Curiously, there are areas of the building that have some collection of stagnant water thereby adding to the already deteriorated condition of the building.
Forefront News observed that most of the users of the facility hardly make use of the lounge or other available amenities owing to the deterioration of the facilities. As a result, most of the passengers and visitors are seen usually in a hurry to leave the airport on arrival and disembarking from the plane they boarded.
However, while the buildings and facilities are in poor conditions needing urgent repairs, the external premises of the airport looks better kept and free of overgrown bushes.
The airport premises also has a strong security presence, particularly personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, who were observed providing security within the premises.
The deteriorated condition of the airport buildings highlights the need for urgent attention to the affected facilities to ensure a safer and more comfortable environment for passengers and other users.
