Lagos Officials Battle Fire At Tejuoso Market Yaba
BY CHINYERE OBIORA – Officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service are battling an inferno at Tailor Market behind the ultramodern Tejuosho Market in Yaba, Lagos just hours after the fire outbreak that engulfed a building in Victoria Island
Speaking on the fire incident, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Response Management Agency (LASEMA), Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, said emergency responders were at the scene of the Yaba fire working hard to bring the situation under control.
According to him; “Our team is on the ground. There have been no casualties so far. We are on top of the situation.”
In her reaction, the Director of Lagos State Fire, and Rescue Service, Adeseye Margaret, said in a statement on Tuesday that the fire engulfed the clothing and tailoring materials section of the market and was subdued by the Lagos firefighters.
Offering further updates via Twitter, Adeseye said the fire gutted the “Tailor Market behind the ultra-modern Tejuosho Market, Yaba, Lagos.
“The Fire which involved the clothing and tailoring materials section of the market is being subdued by the Lagos Firefighters.”
Earlier, a bank building under construction was gutted by fire on the Victoria Island of Lagos leading to the death of a man while nine other men reportedly sustained various degrees of burns from the incident.
Officials said investigations were still ongoing to ascertain the cause of the inferno as of press time.
