Lalong Living in the Past – John Bull Shekarau

BY CHAMBERLAIN ODEY, JOS – A gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, Hon John Bull Shekarau has dismissed the quality and standard of Governor Simon Lalong’s administration in the State as monolithic, saying things have failed to change for the better because the APC governor “is living in the past”.

Hon Shekarau, who is currently a House of Representatives member for Mikang/Shendam/Qua’an Pan federal constituency, said it is stagnation and lack of innovation in Lalong’s approach to governance challenges that have caused failure and decay in infrastructural outlay.

He also blamed the current administration’s incompetence for the collapse of standards in the State’s education and health care delivery sub-sectors.

The lawmaker spoke at the Plateau State PDP secretariat when picking up his expression of interest form to seek the party’s gubernatorial ticket.

According to him, being in a millennial age, “we must review and upgrade our approach to governance to cope with global competition and standards, and to add value and contents to the services we deliver if our public sector is to be efficient and responsive.”

The gubernatorial aspirant stated that having successfully clinched the PDP’s nomination and the seat in 2019 elections, he will evolve a holistic plan to recover and revamp Plateau State from the setback and decay in infrastructure that have characterised “Lalong’s failure and inability to perform”.

“You can see that even in Shendam where Lalong comes from, we do not have drinking water, no roads, and no health care delivery accessible to the people. In fact, we cannot farm because we are not safe. There is insecurity everywhere”, he said.

Speaking earlier, Acting Director General of the Shekarau-for-governor campaign organisation and former commissioner for information, Gregory Yenlong, called on PDP in the state to get it acts together and “salvage the state from these four years of misrule, lack of direction, and untold suffering of the masses of the state”.

Yenlong said Plateau state, under Governor Lalong, is in danger and endangered because not only the infrastructures that are decaying and expiring, but insecurity is worsening by the day with a huge potential that without a focused government to initiate repellent mechanisms, the state could be overrun into extinction.

He urged the opposition PDP to give the gubernatorial ticket to Hon Shekarau because he is on a popular and people-based mission to reposition the state and set it on the course of prosperity.
