Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge Drone Operator: Lagos CP Orders Arrest Of Police Officers Over Extortion

The Lagos State Police Command has condemned what it described as the “unprofessional conduct” of two of its officers caught on video attempting to extort a drone operator on the Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge as was seen in the concluding part of a trending video.
Accordingly, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Adegoke Fayoade, has directed the Commanding Officer of 49 PMF Akodo, from whose squadron the police officers were duly posted to the bridge, to produce the men for appropriate disciplinary actions.

The Command however threw its weight behind the two police officers for demanding a permit from an individual operating a drone on the Lekki-Ikoyi link Bridge.

The Police Command in Lagos, in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Saturday, April 6, 2024, said that the police officers acted within the ambit of the law to demand to see a permit.

SP Hundeyin explained that for emphasis, the Nigerian aviation laws stipulate that a permit must be obtained from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for the operation of drones weighing more than 250 grams anywhere within the country.

The statement however said; “Nonetheless, the Lagos State Police Command totally condemns the unprofessional conduct of the officers in attempting to extort the drone operator as can be seen in the concluding part of the video.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Adegoke Fayoade, has, therefore, directed the Commanding Officer of 49 PMF Akodo, from whose squadron the police officers were duly posted to the bridge, to produce the men for appropriate disciplinary actions””.
