Malawi’s Missing Plane Found, VP, Ex-First Lady, Others Reportedly Dead
The Malawi’s military aircraft conveying the country’s Vice President, Mr Saulos Chilima which got missing on Monday, June 10, 2024, has been found.
It was gathered that the military plane carrying VP Chilima and nine others, including the former First Lady of Malawi, Shanil Dzimbiri, failed to make a landing on Monday morning. VP Chilima and the nine others were billed to attend the funeral of a prominent Malawian lawyer, former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Late Ralph Kasambala in Mzuzu.
President Lazarus Chakwera had ordered regional and national forces to conduct an immediate search and rescue operation to locate the whereabouts of the missing aircraft. However, reports states that the dismembered pieces of the Dornier 228 military plane was found in the Chikangawa Forest early hours of Tuesday with all passengers on board reportedly dead.
A statement on Tuesday morning, June 11, 2024 by Anthony Rogbers Kasunda, the Press Secretary to the President, said that President Chakwera will address the public shortly.
