Nigeria Is Rich, Can Pay Any Amount As Minimum Wage – Sule Lamido
Former Governor of Jigawa State, Mr Sule Lamido has declared if the Federal Government can budget about N17 trillion for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway without passing through the National Assembly, it can conveniently pay any amount demanded by the Organised Labour as minimum wage.
Lamido, who stated this while he featured on Channels Television on Tuesday, said that Nigeria is very rich with resources and is capable of overcoming any challenges with regards to paying workers their demand for a living wage or any amount considered to be reasonable and responsible for Nigerians.
The Organized labour had rejected the N62,000 proposed by the Federal Government as minimum wage but reduced its demand of N494,000 minimum wage to N250,000.
However, amid the ongoing negotiations, State Governors on the aegis of Nigerian Governors Foprum, said they would not be able to pay the N62,000 proposed by the Federal Government.
Reacting to the development when he featured on Channels Television, Lamido pointedly said that the Federal Government is in a position to pay any amount the Organised Labour demand.
In the words of Lamido; “If the same government can embark on an N17 trillion project that is not in the budget, that was not advertised, not tendered for, or did not go through due process, it means that Nigeria got the money.
“How can a government execute a budget of N17 trillion without a budget or passing through the National Assembly, it means the money is there, I can tell you that there is money in Nigeria.
“If they can carry out such a project then they can pay any minimum wage,” he said.
