A man reportedly breached the security of an FCMB bank, sneaked into the toilet, climbed into the ceiling during working hours and remined there overnight in order to temper and compromise the system.

An eyewitness account said the man who pretended to be a customer of the bank gained access to the bank like every regular customer during the day, but instead of leaving with others, he locked himself inside the bank toilet and from there, he reportedly climbed up into the ceiling and remained there until every member of staff had closed and left for the day.

The incident which was captured on video that has gone viral, showed how the man was discovered the next morning and caught by members of staff that found the toilet door locked from the inside.

Suspicious of the development, the door was forced opened only to discover the man in the act of tampering with the bank’s systems as some the bank’s computers began showing strange messages like “restarting, click OK to accept,” indicating that the man must have tried to access sensitive data or functions.

The video footage showed the man being dragged out and beaten by some of the bank’s security as Social media users reacted, with some questioning both the security protocols of the bank and the behavior of the police officers who later joined in assaulting the suspect.

A user tweeted, “The race for December Benz has started. ‘Na you nor get liver’ is about to spend the rest of his life in jail. Youths must use their head and leave the rest to God.”

Another user strongly believed the man had inside help: “That guy was aided by someone in the bank. No visitor can know how to sneak into a bank toilet, then climb the ceiling and locate computer systems. He didn’t act alone.”

Several Nigerians condemned how the man was treated after being caught. In one viral clip, he was seen being beaten with wooden planks, reportedly by both security guards and police officers.

Similarly, another user said; “The police allowed their emotions override their professionalism. So, so sad.”

One other user said; “This is not how suspects should be handled. If he dies, we lose all the useful information he could have given. Take him to the station and question him properly.”

Others expressed frustration with the Nigerian police. “Our police don’t even have handcuffs. They go straight to beating,” someone wrote, while another added, “The police were practically doing jungle justice. This is why people no longer trust the system.”

Someone else asked a question many have on their minds: “How did no one notice a man was hiding in the bank ceiling overnight? Where were the security cameras?”

Another person said, “If the bank had proper overnight surveillance, this wouldn’t happen. It’s either negligence or an inside job.”

The man’s attempt to sneak into a bank toilet, hide in the ceiling, and reportedly tamper with computer systems has now turned into a national topic.

The bank’s management was yet to issue an official statement about the attempted break-in.
