English Premier League side, Manchester United have finally parted ways with embattled Manager, Jose Mourinho following their disappointing start to the season, considered the worst in 28 years.

Currently sitting sixth on the Premier League table, the Old Trafford landlords have already lost five matches in 17 outings, leaving them 19 points behind leaders Liverpool and 11 off fourth-placed Chelsea in the fight for next year’s Champions League places.

The Red Devils’ under-performance follows a summer transfer window that had Mourinho routinely complaining about a lack of signings to boost the team.

Of particular concern was the Portuguese’s inability to persuade the club’s hierarchy on the need to fortify the team with his signing of a new centre-back .

With the development, Mourinho has continued to drop hints of his unhappiness at United’s failure to spend big before the season flagged off.

He is leaving the job after two-and-a-half years in charge at Old Trafford, with his final match in charge being Sunday’s embarrassing 3-1 loss to arch-rivals Liverpool at Anfield

According to a statement released on the Club’s website, “Manchester United announces that manager Jose Mourinho has left the club with immediate effect.” League clubs learn Champions League fate.

“The club would like to thank Jose for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success in the future.

“A new caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the current season, while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager”, the statement said

In his two full seasons at Old Trafford, the Portuguese won the Europa League and League Cup (2016-17) while finishing in second place behind rivals, Manchester City in the Premier League and reaching the FA Cup final last season. Since taking over from Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford, Mourinho has engineered United’s spending of about £364.3m on eight players.

In the interim, the Red Devils have named former Club captain, Michael Carrick as their Caretaker Manager, pending the appointment of a new Coach. With agency report
