Military Thwarts Attack On Dikwa, Crushes ISWAP Fighters
Troops of the Nigerian military were on top of their game on Tuesday evening as they dealt fatal blows on suspected ISWAP fighters that had swooped on Dikwa town in Borno State.
Intelligence reports said the terrorists that make up the Boko Haram splinter group, got more than what they bargained for in the hands of Nigerian forces while trying to invade the area.
According to PRNigeria, scores of the suspected ISWAP militants, who recently overran Abubakar Shekau’s Boko Haram elements, had stormed the town driving in a convoy of gun trucks.
However, insiders within the security circles hinted that a response operation by troops of the Nigerian Army and Air Task Force were on hand to neutralise the terrorists before they could execute their usual ‘callous’ mission of attacking the residents and looting property in the insurgency-ravaged Dikwa town
A competent source further said in the ensuing fierce gun battle between the Nigerian troops and ISWAP fighters, an unspecified number of the terrorist elements were neutralised.
Though the casualties recorded could not be readily ascertain, a Military source said; “The terrorists were severely pounded in battle.
“Those who survive the troops’ onslaughts, some fatally wounded, fled the area, abandoning their evil mission.” – With PRNigeria report
