Suspected Local miners have reportedly raped to death a 13-year-old Fulani girl at the Tipper Garage area in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Secretary of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in the Area Council, Ibrahim Ciroma, who disclosed the unfortunate incident on Sunday, said the late girl left the house on Thursday, August 22, 2024 to hawk fermented milk-cereal mix, popularly called ‘Fura da nono’ in local parlance.
According to Ciroma, the teenager was later declared missing and a search party eventually discovered her corpse on Friday at the Tipper Garage area in Gwagwalada.
The MACBAN Scribe stated that the deceased’s private parts were stained with blood and doctors at the hospital where the corpse was evacuated to confirmed that she was raped.
He further said; “The incident has been reported to the police, and to God be the glory, some miners suspected to be behind the crime have been arrested.”
Reliable sources hinted anger over the unfortunate incident boiled over and almost degenerated into a deadly face-off when the herders mobilised to the area in an attempt for a reprisal attack against the miners.
However, the timely intervention of security operatives was able to arrest the situation and avert what have been a deadly clash between both sides.
Meanwhile, responding to enquires on the development, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident, saying seven suspects had been arrested.
She also said investigation is already ongoing and the suspects would be charged to court at the appropriate time.
The Command Spokesperson, who appealed for calm among the herders community, assured them that justice would be served and perpetrators of evil act made to face the full wrath of the law.
