Mob Kills 2 ‘PoS Robbers’ In Lagos
- Action criminal, archaic – Police caution
The Lagos State Police Command on Sunday condemned a mob that carried out jungle justice on two men, who allegedly robbed a Point Of Sale (POS) attendant in the Igando area of the state.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police (SP) Benjamin Hundeyin, the incident happened on Independence Day.
Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident in his verified Twitter handle on Sunday, said the mob set the victims ablaze and burnt them beyond recognition.
He wrote thus; “Police arrived at the scene but the mob had fled. An investigation has commenced”.
However, frowning at the mob’s action, the Command’s Spokesman said it is important that members of the public put a stop to the archaic and criminal practice.
SP Hundeyin while explaining that jungle justice is a criminal offence in Nigeria, urged members of the public to stop the crime and the Police authorities would never condone people becoming lawless and taking the laws into their hands.
The Command’s PRO said rather than resorting to jungle justice, the public should always endeavour to hand over suspects to the police for prosecution.
