President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, said that critics exploiting the country’s security challenges are doing the bidding of his political opponents.

President Tinubu, who stated this while declaring his intention to seek re-election in 2027 when he received in audience, the Governor of Plateau State, Mr Caleb Mutfwang and key stakeholders from the State, vowed that he would not be deterred.

The President assumed office on May 29, 2023 and is constitutionally eligible to seek a second term of four-year when Nigerians go to the polls in 2027.

Tinubu particularly said that hostile forces were weaponising insecurity to undermine his administration.

In the words of Tinubu; “You are playing to the hand of agents, including my own enemies, who want to use insecurity to get rid of me. I would not be deterred.

“I’m a very stubborn politician. I just refuse to go. And I will campaign for my second term,” he stated.

Tinubu’s declaration comes amid sustained pressure on his administration over attacks by armed groups, kidnappings, and killings across several states.

Some key leaders of the opposition political parties and civil society organisations had on several occasion demanded stronger federal action.

However, the President had consistently defended his administration’s security record, insisting that security agencies are being adequately supported to restore stability.
