BY AMOS DUNIA, ABUJA – In furtherance of its clearance operations, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Component of Operation LAFIYA DOLE on July 3, 2017 detailed three of its aircraft namely, two Alpha Jet and one F-7Ni aircraft, to conduct Air Interdiction strikes on the buildings of Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) in the Sambisa general area.

This was contained in a statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Olatokunbo Adesanya, who further said that subsequent Battle Damage Assessment revealed that the structures with the solar panels as well as other adjoining BHT structures were damaged.

Adesanya also said that a suspected Boko Haram technical vehicle that was attempting to make a run from the vicinity was struck by subsequent waves of attack.

He explained that the NAF air strikes followed a July 2, 2017 Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) mission that was conducted by the Air Force on the Sambisa general area, being the former spiritual headquarters of the Boko Haram Terrorists.

The NAF spokesman said during the ISR mission, Air component personnel noticed a gradual convergence of terrorists’ elements at some buildings in Alagarno Camp 1.

Adesanya explained that the sight of several solar panels on the rooftops of the buildings, and the obvious attempt to conceal the buildings, gave out the plans of the terrorists.

He further said that a confirmatory ISR mission indicated that the structures were most likely a budding Command and Control facility, which could also house High Value Targets.
