BY AHMED TUKUR LAFIA – The Nasarawa State government is eyeing robust partnership with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to deploy its five e-libraries for the National Identity Number (NIN) registration in the state.

The plan aims at easing the heavy human traffic at many registration centres across the state as most people make frantic efforts to beat the initial registration deadline for their mobile lines

Director General of Nasarawa State Bureau for Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Shehu Ibrahim, who dropped the hints in Lafia, said using the e-libraries will  ensure that more residents in the state are registered in good time and get their NIN numbers to link with their mobile lines.

According to Shehu; “the partnership is to allow the bureau access the NIMC portal for the registration of NIN using the e- Libraries across the state.

“This is to enable our five e-Libraries in Keffi, Akwanga, Karu, Nasarawa and Lafia to become registration centres for the National identity card”

He said the collaboration is also expected to create avenues for access to other products that will assist the citizens and other beneficiaries, especially in ICT sector.

“Nasarawa state government, through the Bureau, is working on a partnership with National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to key into the digital identity Echo system currently run by federal government”, he said

For the Director General; “This is geared toward reducing the hardship of people travelling far to register and equally giving those willing to register more opportunity to do so at their doorstep.

“We will use the existing facilities at the e-Libraries, but will acquire the needed hardware to commence registration after the approval from NIMC.”
